Oi Va Voi

Just started listening to this interesting English band Oi Va Voi… their third full-length album Traveling the Face of the Globe was released this month across the pond.

I’ve never heard of them before, but they have a very distinct sound. Their Wikipedia entry describes them as…

an experimental band from London, England, which formed in the late 1990s. Their sound draws on Jewish music from both the Ashkenazic and Sephardic traditions, including both klezmer and Ladino music, as well as Eastern European, especially Hungarian folk music, as well as contemporary electronic music.

If this video doesn’t get you hooked (UHM STOP MOTION = FTW), then listen to my favorite track so far “I Know What You Are” on their MySpace page.

Download album here; comment if you indulge :)

I’ve always wanted to take a pottery class — I used to do some ceramics when I was little and made some pretty classy objects:

Yep, that’s a gravy boat. Too bad the really useful spoon broke *sarcasm* Anyone know of any classes in Connecticut so I can enhance these obvious skills??

Back in this millenium, there are shops with actual talent!

Luckalilly Ceramic Studio has great style, mixing colorful glaze with black and white designs, just gorgeous — Her Flickr photostream shows all of her work as well, I can’t believe she is only 19!

I came across Jezze’s shop upon my geolocator etsy search for South African goodies! I love the simplicity, and also my new favorite color combo yellow/mustard and grey. Do you spell that word grey or gray? Hmm. Jezze also has a  blog that gives insight on her ceramics process, prints on fabric, and illustrations.

Jezze’s beakers remind me of the lovely Spring mugs and beakers I’ve been bumping into at Starbucks the past week, that I’ve admittedly fallen for.

Laurel Begley’s etsy shop also uses these delicious spring colors! Not going to lie, I am totally constructing my own tea set in this post…

This aqua and mango coloration is in some serious competition with mustard and grey!

Feedly

As much as I am a Google girl, and particularly a Google Reader girl… Feedly is an easy and really just cool way to receive your favorite pieces of internet.

Feedly takes your Google Reader account, lets you organize your favorite blogs and news sites — then puts them in a format balancing photos and text that looks like your own personal magazine! It’s just lovely :)

Library of Hogwarts

I’ve registered to take my GRE this evening in August — I’m going to be a librarian! Well… eventually.  I love libraries and books, since I was little — they have a great smell! Not too mention the knowledge of every human who has tried to figure life out before us… oh how many!

I just decided that my to-do-list will be to travel to as many of these libraries as possible all over the world. The old and the modern — libraries hold something sacred to us… and the architecture reflects that — how do you stuff such HUGE  ideas into one building??

This photo’s title hints at my favorite book series Harry Potter, of course, but I didn’t plan it that way! It was destiny :D Anyway, it’s gorgeous… right?

P.S. – My wisdom teeth are out. This somehow seems related to this post’s contents : )

Didn’t want to ruin a small anniversary gift!

I’m mostly made him a potholder because a) he’s stubborn and would probably prove his man-strength by reaching in and grabbing a pan bare-handed b) the last one I made him was very wonky (even more than this!) because I was afraid of binding c) so I can use it :)

For the top, I used the lovely string quilt block paper piecing method tutorial from filminthefridge that I’ve been wanted to try since I saw it! Tutorial was really clear and the paper foundation made using random scraps super easy too :)

I also got him so tea, because he’s sick, poor baby — and because it’s a blend in homage to the Ninth Doctor, from Adagio Teas.

Oh! And the funniest card by SweetMeats, perfect for us and our love of the bacons:

The inside reads: “…even more than bacon.”

New things are always made as gifts, and always made when I shouldn’t have the time. For example, I should be writing an essay on Mark Twain and Herman Melville. Oh well, I’m happy. I still should keep it secret though… I’ll sneak peek.

102_0174Those two pot holders I made in Girl Scouts in erm… 2nd grade? We just found them in the bottom of a drawer… so sad how ugly things don’t get used :D

My mosaic ode to final exams. After Friday, I get a 3 week break in which I do (mostly) nothing, then I move in at the beginning of June (I hope, leasers are flakey).  Don’t these photos just look dashing? I love the black and white, sums up the blandness of exams…

1. EXAM GHOST :| , 2. May 20th – Exams, 3. Exam torture, 4. Stupid Exam., 5. exam fever, 6. Exam Success, 7. I hate exams :X, 8. Final Exams, 9. Final Exam, 10. Bible Interp Exam Review, 11. Zürich (Switzerland) – Three-Days-Exam, 12. Loughborough University Exam Hall, 13. Exams, 14. Exam – Answers, 15. Examining the exam room, 16. studying in pink.

So… I’ve officially made myself feel better about finals week: the Quaker Oats recipe + chocolate chunks. I’m so glad I came home for the weekend :D

My favorite thing about these pictures is that my mom has an obnoxious date stamp like old school times. Oh, mothers :)

Mosaic

I love mosaics. They can be very inspirational, especially on blogs like 100 Layer Cake! Here is a mosaic-meme I just completed, and not to mention my first mosaic ever :D I’m so doing them all the time!

Spring Break

Last week was my spring break — I did pretty much nothing, then the boy took me to Providence! Lovely :D We went to an art show at RISD and got room service and cuddled and… *stops blathering* The art show was pretty cool — some guy took our picture too! Yay souvenirs! It was such a perfect weekend (complete with getting drunk at a fancy restaurant THEN ordering a flaming desert!–wish I got a picture of that) :
